The "Draw" application allows you to create a series of canvas pages. LibreOffice is a free productivity suite. I don't know if this can fill the role you need but I would use LibreOffice Draw. Apple Photos add-in called Motif (free software, but I cannot see a way to proof my book, via save to PDF).

FlipCreator - seems a bit clunky and doesnt make a PDF only HTML5 album.

Similar template issue and I am very unfamilar with these softwares.

Quark Express, similar problem to above but also I am less expert in this than Adobe InDesign.

Does anyone have a good photo books template that they can share? Or point me to?

Adobe InDesign - I can use this as I ahve Adobe Design Studio CS6 but it is not great as I need to resize and mess with the images to get them to fit, but a good template would probably help.

Not ideal as this may be a one off use so price of software should not drive up cost.

Flip PDF Professional ($300) is a nice product but horrible price.

I have found a few softwares that can do this layout but they are either horribly expensive for the task I want to do or very clunky and inflexible.

Page print size for the book will probably be 12"x12"(30cmsx30cms) but may be larger. I want to proof the albums/books as PDF before I send them to be printed. The images will be of variable size so the layout needs to be flexible. I want to have 15-40 images in the album/book. I want to make some photo books to give to friends.
